Topic: Addiction: Treatable Illness – Why is Fentanyl Especially Lethal? Can Drug Craving Be Stopped? How Can You Help Deal with the Drug Crisis
CAPT Michael E. Bohan, USN (RET) has served as General Medical Officer US Naval Station Bermuda, Internist, US Naval Hospital Sasebo Japan, Assistant Chief of Internal Medicine, Naval Hospital Chelsea MA, Assistant Chief of Internal Medicine and head of VIP Medicine, National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda MD, Chief of Medicine Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA, and Advisor to the Navy Surgeon General for Internal Medicine. University appointments included Assistant professor Internal Medicine Boston University Medical School, Uniformed Services School of the Medical Sciences, and Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Since retiring from the Navy he has been in Tidewater working in Addiction Medicine, including hospital appointments at several Psychiatric hospitals, teaching at EVMS and local colleges and outpatient practice at various locations. He was president and owner of Meridian Psychotherapy in Virginia Beach and stepped down from leadership positions in 2016 but remained as a private practitioner there until January 2022. His practice included all addictions. He was board certified in Addiction Medicine in 2009 and was certified as a sex addiction therapist in the early 90’s.
Doctor Bohan has been a member of the Board of Trustees, World Board of Narcotics Anonymous;
Member of the Board, Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH).
Currently he works nationally with several organizations devoted to the understanding and treatment of Benzodiazepine (Ativan, Xanax, Klonapin, Ambien) dependence.
